Jim Corbett Safari Booking Guide

Limited permits, different zones, seasonal timings and ID rules — booking a Corbett safari can feel confusing the first time. Here’s exactly how it works.

How official booking works: Safari permits and night-stay slots are issued only by the Forest Department through its official portal (corbettonline.uk.gov.in), on a limited, first-come basis. Corbett Valley is a private facilitator — we help you plan, check options and complete bookings through authorised channels. We can't guarantee a permit, a specific zone, or a sighting.

The basics

  • Two safari types: Jeep (private 4x4, up to 6 people, several zones) and canter (shared open vehicle, ~16 seats, Dhikala only for day visitors).
  • Two daily slots: Morning and afternoon/evening, with timings adjusting by season.
  • Zone allotment: For jeep, the Forest Department may allot a zone based on availability — you can state a preference, not always lock it.
  • Guide: A registered guide is mandatory on every safari.

Advance booking windows

  • Indian nationals: Typically up to around 45 days before the safari date.
  • Foreign nationals: Typically up to 90 days before.
  • Popular zones and Dhikala stays can fill within minutes of opening in peak season, so plan early.

What you'll need

  • Valid government photo ID for every visitor (Aadhaar/PAN/driving licence for Indians; passport for foreign nationals).
  • The same ID at the gate as used at booking — it's checked on arrival.
  • Details for each traveller — name, age and ID number are usually required.

Rules to remember

  • No day-visit jeep safari into Dhikala (canter only, unless staying overnight).
  • Don't get out of the vehicle during safari, except at permitted points.
  • No pets, no littering, no loud behaviour; follow forest staff at all times.
  • Entry/movement after sunset is not permitted.
  • Permit fees are generally non-refundable once booked.
